Who's Really in Charge?

Jeremiah 10: 23 I know, O Lord, that a man’s way is not in himself,
Nor is it in a man who walks to direct his steps. NASB

If only we could learn this Biblical truth that Jeremiah puts forth to the Israelite people. One of the greatest temptations to mankind, especially in our world today is the temptation of self and to think that we know what is best.

Did you ever stop to think about how much Jesus relied upon the Father's direction for His daily walk while he was on earth? Everyday Jesus rose before the sun and spent time talking to God about his mission and to prepare Himself for the day ahead. Jesus of all people could have very easily just arose and started His day doing whatever He wanted. I mean face it, He was God in the flesh! Why did He need to have quiet time at the beginning of each day? Very simply put, He already knew what Jeremiah was trying to get across to the stubborn people of Israel; it's not about me. I should not be in charge of me!

You see the issue at hand is the fact that we have a sinful nature inherent within us and therefore our ideas, thoughts, wants and wishes often have a very self-focused motive. Not to mention that we have no idea what lies ahead of us each day or what is best for us in the long run of life. Now, while many of you will read and and agree with what I just said, why is it then that we often consult self before we consult God on the issues of our life? I would say part of the reason is, we are out of practice. We have been leaning on self for far too long.

As this day moves forward, try to not trust your ideas to direct your steps and turn to God to help guide your way. The first step in this process is to pray and admit to God that you have a tendency to want to run your life off of your own ideas and have for far too long. Ask Him to give you wisdom and to open your heart, mind and eyes to see and hear His purpose for your life. Then ask Him for the strength to resist what seems right to man, (your ideas) and to fill you with the ability to discern what is God's prompting and what is your own. He will answer you. All God wants is us to follow His leading in this relationship and great things will come!

So, I ask you this question: "Who's in charge of your life today?"

No matter the battle you face or how calm your life might be right now, the prophet Jeremiah's words still ring true today: "I know, O Lord, that a man’s way is not in himself, Nor is it in a man who walks to direct his steps."

Stop fighting, struggling and feeling like a failure as you follow your own steps. You are not a failure; you are a learner and it is high time to learn that our only true direction in life HAS to come from God; not ourselves.

Remember: God's Got This!!!
