Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:5
Attitudes do not just happen; we choose them. Paul urged believers to have the same attitude that Jesus had. Jesus was the Son of God. His place was at the right hand of His Father, ruling the universe. No position could be more glorious or honorable than the right hand of the heavenly Father. Jesus’ relationship with the Father gave Him the right to this honor.
Jesus chose not to hold on to this right. Nothing, not even His position in heaven, was so precious to Him that He could not give it up if His Father asked Him. His love for His Father compelled Him to make any sacrifice necessary in order to be obedient to Him. He was born in a cattle shed; he slept in a feeding trough. His life was spent preparing for the day when He would suffer an excruciating execution. All of this He did willingly.
We are tempted to hold tightly to things God has given us. We say, “I would be willing to give up anything God asked of me, but I just don’t think He would ask me to give anything up!” The Father asked His Son to make radical adjustments in His life. Can we not expect that He will ask us to sacrifice privileges and comforts as well?
If you find yourself resisting every time God seeks to adjust your life to His will, ask the Spirit to give you the same selfless attitude that Jesus demonstrated. Experiencing God- Henry Blackaby
What are you holding onto in your life? What means so much to you that you would not be able to let go of it if asked by God? Is there a possession that means the world to you that could possible stand between you and your Lord? Is there a relationship that would be impenetrable by God because you have such a tight hold on it?
All of this goes back to where our mind is set. Is it set on the things of this world or is it set upon our relationship with Jesus? Every follower of Christ has had to make some pretty hard decisions and faced dramatic tests of faith in their walk and we will be no different. We need to prepare right now for deeper and deeper tests as we grow and mature along our walk with Jesus. The old devil will throw everything at us to test our faith and God has to allow some of it or satan's accusations from the dawn of time would prove then to be true if God were to step in and stop the most trying and hurtful tests of our faith. The adversary has accused God of being unfair and controlling. So much so that satan makes the allegation that we would not even follow God if we faced hardship and had free choice. So, God has to allow some very difficult things to enter our lives. But NEVER forget, God only allows that which will make us stronger and more fit for the Kingdom, nothing else. Also, Never forget, there is a difference between God allowing something and God causing something to happen. All good comes from God; all evil comes from satan. Don't blame God for "doing" things to you; it is the great controversy between God and satan playing out. It has to be allowed to play out in this lifetime so that NO sin will ever rise again in the earth made new as we will have seen how horrible sin is and will never want/choose it ever again!!
If your attitude towards God over a certain situation has become embittered, reach out to Him today and ask Him to give you understanding of the event and what circumstances He can reveal to you. God wants nothing other than you in His Kingdom and He will never allow anything that does not have that goal as its purpose. Look at Job! He lost it all as God allowed satan to slowly but surely remove everything Job had and now Job stands as one of the greatest inspirations for us today in the Bible. You too can serve as a great inspiration to those around you as you get your mind set in the right direction during trials and your daily walk.
Remember two things:
1. Nothing in this life is so important or should be treasured so much that you can't let go of it; other than the hand of Jesus!!
2. God's Got This!!!!
