The Covenant

Gen. 9: 8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying: 9 “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you,

This is the first mention of one of the greatest relationship actions brought forth in the Bible- the covenant. You will find this term running through both the Old and the New Testaments as an unbroken cord that occurs greater than 200 times. It went from Noah through Abram, through the 12 tribes wandering in the wilderness, then to Joshua, and on to the Kings of Israel. Then the prophets point ahead to the days that God would establish a"new covenant" with His people. Jesus in Matt. 26 refers to His blood as the "blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins". My take on that is: if it is mentioned that many times, God might want me to take notice of that!!

The word "covenant" is still used today in various legal matters between we humans . At it's heart a covenant signifies a mutual agreement, a contract if you will. God reached down to us and formed a covenant that would help us better understand how to relate to Him and serve Him. It is as if He sat down at a table with us and said: "My friend, have I got a deal for you!!!!" Indeed He does!!

God's covenant always comes with promises and ultimately the promise of Heaven and eternal life. Another way of thinking about God's covenant is the plan of salvation for you and I. It was set up by Him and He establishes an offer of eternal life as an everlasting gift through the acceptance of Jesus Christ and His blood.

You can be assured that this is one covenant that will not be broken by the One who wrote it up! It is not rigged so the author comes out ahead in the deal. No my friends, this is one agreement that you can feel very safe and comfortable entering into because the One that drew it up had only one motive in mind; a forever relationship with the one who accepts the agreement in full. He even has a default clause built in if you step outside of the arrangement; you can get right back in and regain your righteous, full standing once again!

Today's the day to renew, or accept for the first time the covenant laid out before you. God and Jesus signed their part of this agreement in blood. All you have to do is accept it and you will be given the power to follow it to the letter. What do you say friends? Isn't it about time to pull the agreement out, dust it off and reread one of the greatest relationship contracts ever lived and penned; The Word of God and the life of Christ!

Remember: God's Got This!!!!
