13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. Matthew 5:13
God 's people are His preserving agents for a world that is corrupted and degenerating because of sin. Your life is designed and commissioned by God to enhance a community and to preserve what is good and right. There is deep significance today for a godly life that is involved in its community. the presence of Christ in you makes all that He is available to others. His salvation can free the addict, mend a broken home, heal the pain of the past, restore a wayward child and comfort a grieving heart. All of this is available to those around you as Christ expresses His life through you. -Experiencing God- Henry Blackaby
It wasn't long ago that I was once again convicted in my soul that this old earth is wrapping up and Jesus will soon be coming to take His children home! So then, as my analytic nature is, I began thinking deeply about that and looking at MY world around me; my realm of influence. I wondered what difference I was making in the lives of those in the circle just outside of my closest family members. It was then that I realized, I needed to do more. Not unlike a time when I was in my late 20's where I "died" on a testing table in a North Kansas City Hospital and it took a number of cardiac shocks to bring me back to life. When I was finally revived, could speak and put two thoughts together in a row; things looked dramatically different in my life. When I travel and speak I share much more in depth on this subject on how God was making a major move in my life but for here, I will just share a high-level look. Maybe someday I will come speak somewhere near you and you can hear the rest of the story.
Traveling home later that afternoon, all I could think of was how I, nor my family were prepared for the Kingdom had I not awakened after crashing. I knew as the man of the house it was my responsibility to change that, so over the course of the next year I ended up return to God and answering a call to the Ministry where I remained for slightly over 10 years. God used me to "salt" many lives during those years and I am thankful for that. A divorce changed much about my life and I drifted into a self-loathing, worthless state of depression where I could help no one; including myself for a few years
Now, I type these devotions in hopes of becoming "salt" for everyone who reads them. Occasionally I am able to speak in Churches and I am a consultant for a few Pastors as well. I guess you might call me a salt spreader! LOL Even though salt cures, preserves, and heals it also stings a bit if it hits an open wound. That is okay though, it is all part of the process. Also remember before you begin to correct your brother or sister ( as we Christians often think is our duty, which, if you will look at the job description for the Holy Spirit that is His job. Let HIM do it! Your job is to love.) that too much salt can ruin something as well. Don't believe me? Look at your concrete after a hard winter of using salt and see how it looks. People are much less sturdy than concrete so watch how much salt you use at any one time!
Today, look out on your world and see how it is that you to might "salt" your world. Here is a great starting place: Matt. 22:37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’[d] 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
God's Got This!
