5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Matthew 17: 5
Peter and the other disciples were continually disoriented to God. While Jesus was concerned about one thing, it seemed the disciples were always distracted by something else. In order to help his three closest disciples, Jesus took them up to the Mount of Transfiguration. There Jesus was transfigured into a glorious state and was joined by Moses and Elijah, two of history's mightiest men of God. The disciples, however, were asleep! At one of the most profound moments in history, the disciples were more interested in sleep then they were in praying with the Son of God.
When they awakened they became distracted again. This time Peter announced his plans to build three tabernacles. The disciples were more concerned with what they could do for God than the incredible work of redemption God was about to accomplish through His Son. God removed everything from the disciples' sight but Jesus. "This is my Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"
It is so easy to become spiritually distracted. Do you find yourself focusing on everything else but Christ and the work He is doing around you? Are you so eager to "get to the work" that you have not clearly heard what is on God's heart? Does the Father need to remove from your life those things that are proving to be a distraction to you? Do you need to refocus on Jesus?-Experiencing God-Henry Blackaby
I share a great deal about becoming easily distracted or losing our focus on God because it is the primary reason people eventually become lost for eternity. It often happens slow and nearly unnoticeable and then it grows to a point where God takes pretty much a back seat to everything in our lives. Even with those that feel they are just fine with the Lord and have "known" Him for years. We are to NEVER stop growing in the Lord, but some do because the don't listen for a lifetime.
You who read this have some sort of connection to me and I care about you all. I would be remiss in not reminding those that I care about to be very aware of how little time you spend with Jesus in your life. The old devil loves when he can keep us so busy that we skip our morning prayer or devotion time. He is thrilled when he can load down our plates with so much to do in a day that our time with Jesus is a fleeting prayer as we head out the door or just before we close our eyes at night. While those are positive moments in our day, God deserves more and frankly; we need more! He has a great deal to say to you that is of vital importance to your future; listen to Him.
Here is a thought to tuck away in the back of your mind that will help you:
If your life is too busy, you feel overwhelmed, you spend more time
planning then praying, the circumstances of life seem to be piling up
on you; recognize immediately that satan is at work and it's time to
pray!!
Friends, make sure everyday that you are carving out more and more time to spend with God. I personally believe that this earth's history will be wrapping up faster than any of us suspect. We need Jesus now more than ever! What do you think Jesus is trying to tell /show you today? Ask, He will make it clear!!
